A leftover Christmas beer; as it’s likely to be my last ever tick on Ratebeer it seemed an appropriate one to say “Bah Humbug” to the Scrooges at AB-Inbev:

If I had to pick one beer to be the best, it would be this beer. I’ve probably had this beer, in different iterations, the most. First tried it at BCTC and then later moved to KS. We used to do these awesome blind Saison Brett tastings, verticals and horizontals. We tried this beer at different vintages, different formats (bottle vs growler), and different aging processes (e.g., fresh, store aged, closet aged, fridge aged). These were some of the best beer tasting memories. Thanks KC RB crew @theisti @Indra @csbosox

Blvd is also one of those breweries that has gone up and down as the craft beer business has changed. In its peak, around the time I lived in KS, I think they were one of the top tier breweries in their size category (regional craft). I remember starting a thread about how much the Smokestack Series was superior to a series from New Belgium. They made very strong Belgians starting with their Saison, along with a Quad and Saison Brett. And then the business changed. The Saison got cut b/c it didn’t sell. Eventually, they sell to a bigger company. The original owner steps away. Then the fad beers start to become the most common beers they make. And then they stop brewing this angel of a beer. Unsurprisingly, it comes out that Blvd is a pretty toxic workplace. Heads role and the original owner has ti come back. It was a low point

I still had aged bottles but I was slowly losing my stash. Then I see that they made a small batch, sent out to select stores. Nothing in my neck of the woods. But I’m visiting my in-laws and I search high and low and found a bottle. A single fucking bottle. The Brett is a bit feral here but the base beer is still great and it’s still this beer.

I know it’s a lot but this beer and this site are tangled in my psyche. This beer has come back from the dead, perhaps RB can rise again. Even in a feral form.

Its like the rally cap in US baseball, wear your hat backwards, or bill flipped upside down, in the dugout. Superstitious good luck, come back from the dead; a way to pensively boost the team’s morale and chances of winning, when things are looking awful.

What a way to say goodbye with a belter of a beer. Totally surprised by it, absolutely delicious, one of Kees’ best beers if you ask me. Would have been a 4.3 on RB, rating is already on brewver though.

Hope to see many of you over there, will try to complete 10k what I couldn’t accomplish on RB, unfortunately. Cheers everyone!
