Hey, I’ll be in Birmingham from Feb 16-19. I have a day trip planned out to Rutland, but would be up for a pub crawl if anyone is interested. No dates for Rutland, so I’m flexible.
I would loved to have shared a few beers with you in England’s second city, but I’m in the US over the dates you’ll be in Birmingham!

Hiya Steve, I’m happy to meet you Wed 16th for a session. It’s good that you have 4 days to explore as the area can be split in sections. I’m sure you have some kind of idea where you want to go but here’s a few suggestions:
Birmingham Central either two leisurely pace days, or a hell for leather pit stop of everywhere.
Then a day exploring the historic brewpubs of the Black Country - Holdens, Bathams, Sarah Hughes, where you’ll find all the traditional cask styles done well, mild, dark mild, best bitter etc… Will need to be done by bus unless someone can offer their services. I believe someone did for travlr a few years back but he stopped rating some time ago.
Then you can spend a day (Saturday perhaps) around Stirchley area which is home to numerous brewpubs and very fine specialist craft bars, pubs and bottleshops.
That I think should give a good representation of Birmingham and West Midlands though I’m sure others can add to it.

I have no idea what my schedules going to be like that far I advance, but I’d be up for a few drinks in Birmingham.
I should say, sadly, to be prepared for disappointment in Rutland. There are a smattering of decent places, and you have the Grainstore Brewery Tap where you’ll get Rutland ticks galore, but all in all there ain’t much there.
I understand, but it’s all about the Rutland tick. So close to finishing my England map. Still ISO of an IoW tick.

Note: if someone does offer their services, I’ll buy. Plus some goodies from the NW US. I met Colin once in Oxford and we cabbed it around, and some Ubers in Shoreditch and Bethnal Green.

On Fri 11th Feb a number of us are going the to national winter beer festival in Birmingham … then on the 12th we are doing a pub crawl in town.
