Cheers mate! Yes it will be the start of a new chapter for me. @jmgreenuk it was Chez Sophie’s last day of opening today, so no more crepes & waffles! Perhaps the powers that be can mark it as permanently closed on the site?
In two weeks I’ll be in France and will become the top French rater, above @jaghana and @calisky both in Alsace.
I’ll be moving to the North which is blossoming as a big hotspot for craft beer, as is France as a whole. 2500 breweries in France (compared to 1700 in UK and 1400 in Germany! Crazy!). The government is even funding a brand new beer centre in Bailleul due to open in 2025, comprising a beer museum, beer library, micro-brewery and bar pouring beer from the Hauts de France / French Flanders region. Great timing for me to get amongst it and I encourage others to as well.
Only one stop to Lille on the Eurostar, home to 30+ breweries and counting, and a surprising amount in surrounding towns and villages all the way to Calais.
I will miss our regular meet-ups and tastings Jeremy. You’ve been a true pal and hopefully we’ll arrange some in France / Belgium or on my return visits.
If anyone else finds themselves in the Cassel, Hazebrouck / Poperinge / Ieper / Lille area give me a shout. Cheers all
Mat you have been a solid UK rater and put in plenty of your minutes of effort & time to making the community better this was no minute task! Cheers to new beginnings, Shawn
Glad to see you’re still on RB, albeit not in the UK section. You’ll be missed. My visits to Shropshire have been rare but yours has always been a highlight. Take care and hopefully we’ll see your rates occasionally!!
Hi Mat, apologies for the delay in wishing you all the best, been a busy few weeks with lots of family visiting us. I hope that everything goes well for you both, what a fantastic move! It’s a very nice area as well with some fab’ towns and cities to explore.
