FAO UK Admins - Breweries/Places Housekeeping

It looks like it only returns max 15 breweries, and it’s below the cutoff. A search for “Eden brew” shows it. I guess the search should probably prioritise hits where “Eden” is a complete word, instead of as a sub-string in for example “Elveden”, “Ølsmeden” and “Kelterei Steden”.

I never even noticed, or thought there might be a cutoff total. And yes, whole words should take priority.

Actually, when it’s returning the maximum number of (for example) breweries, it would be nice if it said somewhere that the maximum number of results has been reached (and maybe suggesting to do a more specific search or something to that effect).

I agree. Sadly it seems as I find one ‘glitch’ or ‘problem’ it opens up a load more ‘faults’ or ‘idiosyncrasies’ within the RateBeer site/systems.

This sort of searching has been an issue for a while. I agree whole word results should be given priority. Imagine the issues search for the brewer Q.

I often go to the all brewery lists and then the individual region list to find a brewery. This does mean you need to know where a brewery is (which region) to find it.

Completely different subject matter: I will be visiting here in the next two weeks: https://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/dog-in-the-lane/22971/

Could a friendly Admin add it as a place so it can be reviewed and linked to the ‘client brewery’ page, the link I have put on this post. Thanks.

You can add a brewery by just clicking the ‘Clone’ button.

Did it for you:

I managed to add this version of Beer 52 which already exists as Beer52 (without the space)

https://www.ratebeer.com/p/beer-52/74390/

Sorted

Fuller’s moved their Twitter page last year to @Fullers (old one was @FullersBrewery). Their Facebook page has stayed the same.

This could be updated on their brewery page - https://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/fullers-brewery/55/
Both links (FB and Twitter) could also be added to their brewery place page - https://www.ratebeer.com/p/fullers-brewery/855/

Just added a new brewery. They have a taproom so I cloned it to a place. Could someone add ‘and Taproom’ to the name, please.

I’ve just added a new brewery as well. https://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/emperors-brewery/33634/
Nothing wrong with it but just writing here for the attention of any admins who verify breweries, in case this gets flagged and/or if you want to add any extra info to the description. This started out as a home brewery in 2014, but as of this week is now selling commercially. There’s 30+ beers on Untappd however I’ve only added the latest one (the one going on sale this week) as the others will all be classed as homebrews and thus not allowed on Ratebeer.

The brewery’s logo can be found on their website/twitter/facebook if you want to upload that, as well as a short description of the brewery. Also it seems I accidentally added a space after the city name “Coalville” which can be deleted.

The Wales place naming system has a - in many locations, click any of them and the town page is blank. Just go to Wales and pick anywhere with a - to see what I mean.

And what ever you do, don’t try and use the map.

Both updated.

'tis done.

All done.

This is the issue when changes are made to the site without a proper testing situation, the hyphens are no longer recognised by the current system and our programmers really don’t seem to be that bothered to put it right. I am working on removing as many of the offending issues as I can but it is an impossible task and unfortunately as you get close they go and change something else. It feels a little out of control at present as all the check marks on the mapping override have also been removed. It’s quite a mess and unless they have a solution I can’t see it changing.

Very frustrated Glen

Sorry Glen, but don’t get frustrated mate. Have a beer and chill. It must be annoying though, trying to appease so many of us when none of the issues are of your doing and you can’t get into them in any meaningful way.

:+1: You are so right. I’m being taken out at lunchtime so all’s well.
