Is beer chugging a thing?

In the last week or so the largest uk craft beer group on Facebook has been flooded with videos of people downing their beer - a lot of Americans actually - with an abundance of impressed comments along the lines of #LEGEND, #chugchugchug, #chuglife etc… One was two American girls downing expensive Cantillon…

Is this really a thing? I thought the craft beer scene in general was above this sort of thing. Just curious whether its just a small group on social media or if its a wider trend.

Is always in an existential crisis somewhere in between wine snobs and college beer drinkers. It definitely has elements of both, chugging being part of the latter.

I never was able to chug (or shotgun, etc.) even at “that” age. Certainly not something I’d do now, especially not with anything expensive. Not even a 4% session beer. Much rather drink my beer than wear it.

I will chug a beer if my wife is rushing me or if I think the beer is crap. Otherwise, I am a slow drinker. My roommate in college once chugged a 750ml of Gulden Draak… I advised against it.

I’m surprised to hear that with all that carb it didn’t just come back up involuntarily.

I think he let it sit for a bit, as I recall.

I joined that group a week or so ago but all that chugging shit (plus half the posts seem to be from the same 3 or 4 US based people rating over there) is making me think of leaving already.

Although when I read the rules- i.e. no talk about beers available in super markets, etc, I did wonder about their attitudes.

I think your first mistake was joining a Facebook group.

I was a member the day it was formed. The ‘other’ group, the UK craft beer network, was flooded with posts about Punk IPA or Wychwood real ale so it was supposed to be a new forum for those into new releases, progressive craft etc…

I posted a haul once of good Polish craft, to show how inventive and innovative Polish brewers had become. It got deleted by admin, because it wasn’t UK beer, and generally seen as showing off with no tasting notes.

But now, you can post a video chugging some beer no one knows and its fine. Personally I think its dumb as shit.

I left that group because they are the anthesis of Old School CAMRA. Twats I call them.

Oh…yeah guys Macboost has retired now.

Chugging a craft beer is disrespectful to the brewer who has spent time and love creating something to be savoured and appreciated, these individuals should be banned from purchasing.

Is there anywhere I can post my frathouse wrestling videos?

I’d recommend PornHub.
