† pivnizub

We have sad news from Germany’s ratebeer community to share. Günther, more commonly known under his RB alias pivnizub or “Dr. Bock”, passed away last weekend. A passionate lover of all things Czech and Franconian, he was a very knowledgeable mind and a valuable teacher to many of us. The international ratebeerians will have fond memories of sharing beers with him at the last pre-pandemic RBESG 2019 in Bohemia, or perhaps from earlier RBESGs.

We will miss Günther and his unique sense of humor very dearly.

Sbohem, příteli. Ade.

An absolute legend and an unique character in a very positive way, never has diacetyl had a bigger fan, rarely has a dentist been so beloved. I was glad to run into him again in Prague/Plzeň in 2019, though somehow we managed not to cross paths after.

Will do my best to raise a Hostomický Fabián 12°, at the Hostomická Nalévárna, where we hoped we would meet again this year, but it was not to be…

Germany lost two fantastic beer people in such a short amount of time… :frowning:

I am very sorry for that. I did some trades with Gunter and met him in Plzen. RIP.

So sorry to hear this news. I don’t think that I had ever met Günter, but I know that he was held in very high regard by many. Sad news :disappointed: and another tragic loss to the beer scene in this part of the world.

Shocking news! Günter was probably the ratebeerian living closest to me, actually just about half an hour away by car, but somehow we only managed to meet in person once some years ago. I remember him as a very honest and direct person, typical for people from this area. It’s a shame we didn’t get to meet again in all those years.

Rest in peace.

Very sad news! Günter was a great and knowledged guy. Remember a fantastic brewery crawl through the northern Ruhr area with him a couple of years back.

Very sad news. I’ve met him several times, for the last time in Plzen. Very passionate about Czech and Franconian beers and a warm and friendly person.

So sad to hear this…. Did dozens of trades over the years, but unfortunately never met him in person although we shared a common love for Czech beer. Rest in peace!

Oh my, for some reason I would’ve expected you the first one who has at some point met up with him!

Sorry to read this. Pretty sure I met Günter at RBESG London back in 2014. As I recall, one of his favourite visits during the weekend was to Camden Town Brewery, which puts out some very fine lagers, according to Günter. I agreed with him.
