The revamp of the site is partly intended to make it more attractive to potential new users / tickers / raters.
To do that, I suggest that RateBeer needs more porn. No, I do not mean women and men getting their clothes off, although that might attract some potential users to the site and interest existing RateBeerians.
Rather, I suggest the site needs more “BEER PORN” such as some of the excellent pictures hidden away in the Instagram section at the bottom of the Community “We are RateBeer” page.
There must be a zillion pictures available of happy people in bars and pubs, bar, pub and brewery interiors and exteriors, beer festivals (large and small), beer boards, more happy people (young and old), beer fonts, pump clips, beer bottles, cans, glasses, beer mats, crowded bar interiors, families, iconic heritage bars and pubs, etc. which could be used to “sell” the attraction of the RateBeer community to prospective new users / tickers / raters.
I suggest that the website interface needs to be made more attractive. It looks as if it was designed in, and has not been updated since, the last millennium. Surely it must be possible to “glam it up a bit” so that prospective users are attracted onto the site and find it a more involving and interesting experience when they enter the site.
Agreed! Iv’e always thought it would be cool to have a photo album for each place showing just what you,re talking about. Would give users a neat insight to the places they,re scoping out. Probably a lot of work to set up though.

Personally I use information from Untappd and Google Maps (Reviews and Local Guide photo submissions) to scout around locations that are poorly documented/reviewed on RB. A lot of times photo’s from Untappd with datestamps and shots of taplists have helped out admins on RB. I believe at least part of the success of Untappd is there is a factor of fun in adding stupid pictures to checkins. Now I don’t necessarily need that on RB but a more juicy way to experience a sense of community would probably help to attract more users into this data entry slave labour.
Each beer/place rating should have the option to include 1 pic (like Untappd).
The picture used for the beer/brewer/place page infos should however be editable only by admins. (in order to have some possible consistency between beer pics within a same brewer).
