Oh that is sad. I only had one of their beers I think, but still sad to see America’s only trappist brewery go.
It is nice to know that beer journalism continues to decline in quality. Spencer closed not b/c of IPAs but marketing, price point, and producing a mediocre product.

I actually liked their beers, but the price point was hard to swallow most of the time. Hard for them to compete with a lot of other Trappist or Trappist-adjacent breweries that are pumping out beer just as good (or better) at a better price.
Would be have been wild to see the Monks embrace hazy IPAs or pastry stouts though.

They did make an imperial stout, which surprised me at least.
Just drank their imperial stout last week. Very nice.

Sorry to see although it’s hardly surprising. I tried four of their beers and gave them an average of around 3.6, which is just about my exact average beer score overall.
