Stat Attack: County Stats of Courage - An Ewok* Adventure

Following MrPinks efforts I thought to myself, 'Hmmm, wonder what my home county top breweries are?"

Have kept it it to a Top 5 as there are so few in Surrey but have also looked up the stats for my real home county of Hampshire and the oiks over the border in Berkshire.

Surrey

  1. Big Smoke 18 @ 3.39
  2. Tilford 8 @ 3.3
  3. Ascot 27 @ 3.28
  4. Thurston’s 24 @ 3.2
  5. Surrey Hills 8 @ 3.19

Hants

  1. Unity 44 @ 3.56
  2. Vibrant Forest 33 @ 3.48
  3. Emsworth Brewhouse 5 @ 3.46
  4. Fallen Acorn 9 @ 3.42
  5. Staggeringly Good 11 @ 3.4

Berks

  1. Siren 95 @ 3.6
  2. Elusive 77 @ 3.51
  3. Double-Barrelled 31 @ 3.49
  4. Wild Weather 34 @ 3.44
  5. Binghams 14 @ 3.26

Some of these breweries benefit from individual stouts, or such like, upping their average amongst the swaves of golden ales and twiggy bitters.

So how do other people’s home county/ies compare?

*After a few months of lockdown I am certainly short, fat, hairy and don’t bother getting dressed.

For Berkshire they are as follows:

Brewery Beers Rate Country
Siren 122 3.76 Berkshire
Elusive 12 3.54 Berkshire
Double-Barrelled 6 3.52 Berkshire
Wild Weather 27 3.41 Berkshire
West Berkshire 7 3.26 Berkshire

For Hampshire four of the five were high up in the list:

Brewery Beers Rate Country
Staggeringly Good 7 3.74 Hampshire
Fallen Acorn 5 3.72 Hampshire
Unity 12 3.63 Hampshire
Vibrant Forest 12 3.60 Hampshire
Red Cat 11 3.34 Hampshire

I had to go a long way down to find a Surrey brewery:

Brewery Beers Rate Country
Little Beer 8 3.24 Surrey
Hogs Back 7 2.97 Surrey

Not surprised Siren are top, Fallen Acorn only made it so high due too the exceptionally good “The Valley of the Ghosts”.

I actually meant your own home county/ies. So how about Lincolnshire? :grinning:

I live in Lincolnshire, but can see Nottinghamshire as I’m close to the boundary so I have included both.

For Lincolnshire the top 5 are:

Brewery Beers Rate
Waddington* 5 3.44
Avoiding Line* 8 3.39
Cheeky Imp 22 3.34
Hopshackle 16 3.31
Horncastle 16 3.29

For Nottinghamshire the top 5 are:

Brewery Beers Rate
Neon Raptor 12 3.92
Cat Asylum 15 3.67
Black Iris 41 3.61
Totally Brewed 30 3.59
Liquid Light 6 3.57

*Both Waddington and Avoiding Line have closed.

Cambridgeshire (2914-2017)

Three Blind Mice (63) 3.5
Oakham Ales (41) 3.4
BlackBar (5) 3.38 (closed)
Son of Sid (11) 3.32
Milton (25) 3.31

Bedfordshire (2013-2014 bit visit often)… poor old Bedfordshire…

B&T Brewery (15) 3.27
White Park (6) 3.22 (closed)
Brewhouse & Kitchen (Bedford) (8) 3.19

Here are the fishy scores from Shropshire:

Hop & Stagger Brewery 14 @ 3.44
Hobsons Brewery 32 @ 3.42
New Brew (aka Plan B) 13 @ 3.41
Rowton 40 @ 3.39
Salopian 81 @ 3.39

All pretty close, pleased with the results, but some good ‘Real Ale breweries’ missed out. Very surprised to find Hop & Stagger at the top, Salopian being down in 5th is because I have scored some of their citrusy brews fairly low, but their darker, stronger beers get better scores from me.

Nearest borders to me are Staffordshire and Wales, I’m a fish out of water!

Staffs.
Titanic 28 @ 3.46
Slater’s Ales 24 @ 3.29
Lymestone 18 @ 3.27
Freedom 6 @ 3.22
Burton Bridge 23 @ 3.2

Wales.
Cader Ales 5 @ 3.62
Hopcraft 7 @ 3.56
Celt Experience 8 @ 3.52
(Loka) Polly’s 5 @ 3.46
Big Hand (Wrexham) 7 @ 3.37

<*))))))><

I can’t believe some of the numbers. I.e. I’d been wanting to try a beer from Unity after reading about them and I think I had my first beer from them at a festival in May 2018. And now I have had 44 of them, yet if you’d asked me I would have thought I’d maybe had 15-20 max.

Edit: That was total bollocks. I had two in October 2016.

Here’s my list for county Durham:

Steam Machine Brewing Co. Durham 67 3.57
Donzoko Brewing Durham 12 3.56
Saints Row Brewing Durham 31 3.51
Durham Cider Durham 5 3.48
S43 Brewery Durham 51 3.46

Nice to see local cidery in the list, and it’s interesting that Durham
Brewery don’t make my top 5 but are pretty high up in the top UK brewery list!
