This tells me I drink local cask ales and supermarket beers, Cloudwater and Northern Monk are from monthly beer exchanges, although I have also bought Northern Monk from Morrison’s.
Parents lived near Batemans and we had a family caravan in Southwold (hence Adnams).
I’m not surprised by number one, but I can’t have had more than a handful of Mikkeller beers in the last 3 or 4 years. And I’ve certainly drank more Stewart beers than that number, but I stopped rating them when I worked for them! Siren I’m a big fan of, and their online shop game was strong from the off.
I guess I’m not surprised by this, but these breweries don’t really reflect my current buying habits, besides Polly’s and Salopian which I always search out. Used to rate a lot of Brewdog when I signed up for their monthly 3-beer box, and Cloudwater I used to buy a lot of in the early days… similarly Mikkeller, but can’t say I really search out any of these breweries much these days. Nice to see a top ten all over the 100 mark tho.
This reflects my current focus on Cider and Gluten Free, with 3 cideries (Ross on Wye, Olivers & Little Pomona - interestingly all from Herefordshire) and 2 producers of GF beers (Abbeydale & Brass Castle) in my top 10. Ross on Wye have a fantastic selection and have recently opened their own webshop (https://shop.rosscider.com/), so can see them staying on top. Always keen to try local brewers, and there are 3 in the list (S43, Steam Machine & Durham).
Of those, The Kernel is the only one I still seek out.
Still try a couple Cloudwater beers every month thanks to others in the London crew sharing bottles.
Haven’t had a Mikkeller beer in ages. Don’t really see them around much.
The rest I used to seek out but don’t make any special effort to drink anymore. But I do periodically drink them when I see them. I still quite like Siren. Howling Hops is local to me and a local pub usually has a few beers from them on tap, so I sometimes pick up a new one there.
I tried a couple new Beavertown beers in the past week and was wholly unimpressed. For me, Beavertown’s sale and subsequent decline in quality is one of the more disappointing brewery stories I have come across.
For European RBians, how high Mikkeller and BrewDog are on one’s most rated brewery list seems to be a pretty good indicator of one’s longevity as a user of ratebeer.
I am not surprised to see Thornbridge top, but Buxton and Torrside also pushing hard for my Derbyshire ratings. Of my top ten only Torrside and Kernel are unavailable to me over here now.
Completely agree Leighton, but I am glad to see that these are now split in my top ten by a couple of my UK favourites who to be fair have also been around for a long time.
Not quite a true history of my most drank breweries, just what I’ve ticked on here. I’ve definitely concentrated on a few of these to bump myself on lists. Holy Goat for example, who’s beers I used to seek out more than I do nowadays.
I’m mostly concentrating on new breweries rather than trying to tick loads from breweries where I’ve already rated a few.
It’s been years since I sought out BrewDog beers so it’s nice to see them falling down the list.
Cloudwater still up top even though I don’t drink as much as I used to from them these days.
Same with Northern Monk - I still go for the Patrons Project releases but don’t bother with much else unless it sounds interesting.
Deya’s my local.
In fact out of this lot, Track and Wylam are the only ones who I still buy most of their new releases. Wylam not particularly difficult since they only make 1 or 2 new beers a month these days but Track have ridiculous output so I end up skipping some.
As for foreign breweries, like most of you I expected Mikkeller to be up high but they were surprisingly quite far down with just 41 rates. Could’ve sworn I had more but it makes sense, always enjoyed their beers but not many ever stood out enough to keep me buying regularly. And back then I was more keen on getting new country ticks rather than getting Denmark over and over again.
My top foreign ones are: Basqueland, Lervig, Amundsen, Garage, Hop Hooligans, To Ol, Omnipollo, Mikkeller and Stigbergets
