205 Regions and counting

Does anyone know if services has time to look into this?

Also for Travel Lists the states of Mexico do not show up.

I just noticed accidentally that a brewery that’s been entered, but that doesn’t have any beers yet, doesn’t show up on the brewery list for a given region. I went in and added a couple of beers for the brewery and suddenly it appeared. Not sure if this is the same issue, and doesn’t really seem like a huge issue in any case anyway but just flagging.

Also, added some breweries that weren’t in the system yet in some of the Mexican states that seemed suspiciously free of breweries like Zacatecas. There were only 2 before, now like 7. This will probably be the case with lots of these in L. America. I’d been kind of chipping away at it like year ago then stopped when we started talking about splitting. Now that they are split, I’ll add more to database here and there.

This has been brought up to @services before. Even I have re-added breweries as there is nothing different for admin. Pretty annoying. Always good to either add a beer or not add them until they actually start selling beer.

Yeah it happens even when there’s an active brewery with active beers with ratings etc. Some just mysteriously don’t show up anywhere in the directory and I can’t figure out why. It’s a really weird bug.
When I was helping with Australia I noticed there’s a lone cidery in ACT, 3 Sons Cider which has a cider listed with several ratings.

Australian Capital Territory Cideries | RateBeer
This page shows nothing though, and even in the main Australia directory it’s not there. Literally only findable via searching.

Editing the brewery to move it to another region then move it back doesn’t seem to help either.

Funny the beer that is added and rated isn’t showing. I added 4 other ciders they make and it now appears in the list but with only 4 when there is 5 ciders add.

I moved the cider to another brewery and back again and it’s still stuck at 4, something’s up with that specific cider causing it not to be counted anywhere. I wonder if it’s even counting as a rating for the users who have rated it.

So that should be Switzerland done (albeit waiting for services to verify nothing was missed).

  • No sake producers as expected
  • Three cantons with only one registered brewery on RB
  • One canton with no registered brewery on RB (but there are allegedly a few tiny ones there)
  • Cantonal total 13 fewer than Switzerland count due to RB’s handling of breweries with 0 beers (or all brewed by someone else)

Thank you for doing Switzerland @CH-303.

I only have 8 beers rated from your country, but somehow managed 7 different Cantons, very pleased to discover that!

You just don’t see Swiss beers in the UK.

Nice work. Just the 6 Swiss rates for me, all from Valais.

As BlackHaddock said you never really see Swiss beers in the UK. A couple of years back some WhiteFrontier made its way over here which I dutifully grabbed. Don’t think I’ve seen a single one since then, other than a few random shops with occasional bottles of “1936 Bière” for some reason.

Basically zero Swiss beer in Russia too. A single tick for me: a cannabis-flavoured beer from the only brewery in Appenzell Innerrhoden. Used to be widely available here when I started out on RateBeer.

I’ve only got 3. The bulk of mine are Jura – BFM beers used to be all over Toronto for a while when I started RB then also in DC a few years ago. Don’t see them anymore.

Trois Dames is often available in NYC, so is BFM. The rest of my Swiss Ticks are all from actually being there I think.

That’s a pretty good hit rate!

Which is funnily enough from a Swiss brewery I haven’t tried yet, but noticed many non-Swiss have rated.

Yup I got those two breweries in NYC (way over paying for an eisbock tick if recall) then my 2 others are from a lovely lunch I had in Luzern Switzerland on river while eating fondue.

Probably you can still find them here, I guess I just used to see them mostly on tap at Churchkey or the Pizza Paradiso places. Since there’s not such thing as tap beer for the past year++ perhaps that’s why they aren’t around.

At least one, found via Untappd: https://www.bofo.ch/
It looks remarkably hard even for the Swiss to get, the beer has just 20 checkins in almost 3 years of existence. As you can see from their kit, it’s pretty much homebrew levels of output.

Had a quick look for the other cantons with a lone brewery.
Appenzell Innerrhoden does indeed only seem to have the one, but it at least seems to be fairly big.
Glarus and Uri each have 2 more breweries on Untappd not added here, but all are tiny with only a few hundred checkins.

So yeah, an extremely challenging country to complete!

I actually emailed BoFo yesterday, hoping to get hold of their beers to get to 26/26. There are four other registered breweries in the canton (which in Switzerland doesn’t mean that they necessarily brew anything or distribute anything), so there’s some hope.

For me Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico will be the extremely challenging ones…
