Just found out the Barton’s Arms in Aston has closed. Already changed on here so just comin on to convey my sadness. There is no God.
Yes, sad news indeed.
<*))))))><
The statement they made announcing the closure says that a rise in heating, lighting, power, food and the cost of employing people has meant the business is no longer viable and they closed the doors overnight. It’s so very sad, but this is the situation that many other British business find themselves in right now and I fear that this might be the beginning of an avalanche of closures. You can’t cling on forever
In Brum you also have the closure of the North bar, Digbrew and the short-lived Haul (which slso shut in Stourbridge). Roberto’s bar obviously reallocated to Halesowen a while back. I noticed that he commented on North, saying anyone opening a new bar in central Birmingham was mad.
North Bar didn’t last long, assume a victim of North’s financial troubles and not something Kirkstall wanted to retain. Only been to the Bartons once, as I recall it’s a trek from the city centre, kind of middle of nowhere so guess that can’t have helped
I’ve only managed to get to the Barton Arms on the one occasion back in January 2016, it was quite straightforward from the centre, six stops. I really liked it, great beers (Oakham & some guests back then), stunning interior, I am sure that it will be back at some point soon, fingers crossed.
I’d love to turn it into an experimental jazz cafe that serves craft beer and cocktails but I have a feeling that would not be economically viable
Like most others, only been to the Barton Arms a couple of times, it’s not the most salubrious of areas and the tiling inside are sicky colours Nothing else round there to visit.
On another point does anyone know if Flavourly are still going? Seems to have gone very quiet on that front.
Joules brewery have bought the Red Lion in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham.
Joules do very, very good refurbishments, they don’t scrimp or cut corners. Their main problem is they refuse to offer guest Real Ales, even though they offer other’s Lagers and Ciders. New Shropshire hits for Birmingham pub goers once it’s up and running.

I think these guys have gone.

Suspect Brewing closed August 2023, according to Pints of View. https://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/suspect-brewing/47280/
Yes. THe pub they brewed for took a very long time to reopen after Covid. but (according to Whatpub) serves Uley beers.
Flavourly went bust and got bought out by Beer 52
Unfortunately this lot closed down last year -
I understand that these stopped brewing in 2020 and have removed their brewing kit.

This is a Celt Experience beer so should be under Evans Evans Brewery - and EEB as a brewery should be removed from the database:

Full details of the beer are here:
Opinions please. Is this:
different enough from this:

to warrant a new entry? I’m not convinced but thought I would get a second opinion(s).
Also Monstex closed its doors late last year. https://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/monstex-brewery-formerly-anstey-ale-brewery/28879/
The Mash (their pub in Anstey) is going to keep its doors open, showcasing local breweries instead of their own beer. Will need to re-rate when I can.
This also complicates the situation with Hoskins Bros beers at the Ale Wagon, as Monstex were brewing these last I’d heard. But thats another day.
