STATES / REGION for all countries

Mexico, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, France, in no particular order. @Jow if we are to believe the Danish thread, or the two vocal people there at least, they all hate the idea, so at least for now we’ve dropped Denmark kind of off the ASAP list and bounced it down somewhere after Transdnistria and Macedonia unfortunately for now.

Haha I only said Denmark since I have bunch rates from there. I agree we shouldn’t split countries if there isn’t a standard of doing so. Luckily you gave me a Transdniestra tick a few years back for when that occurs.

I have 116 Denmark ticks, and all but one of them are from the Capital Region, so I probably wouldn’t recommend getting excited about a Denmark split.

I mean Evil Twin is Brooklyn tickz anyway isn’t it?

My top 5 would be Wales, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland and France. Pretty please! Loving the new region splits, it’s made beer hunting feel all fresh and new and exciting again.

Although if I’m honest I would prefer maps to colour in for Belgium,Scotland, and the Czech Republic before we get new countries regionalised. However, from previous comments I suspect that sadly this won’t happen.

My top would be Wales, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland and all Scandinavian countries.
France can wait untill they manage to produce a good beer.

Ok I created a new poll: Put your top five there.

Poland taking the early clear lead. Second place is less clear so far.

Can I give five votes to Denmark in response to that hilarious thread?

Hey Dave (@WingmanWillis), I notice that I am two areas in front of you since the new regions were added: You need to get out more once the restrictions are lifted!

I do. Was all set for a Canada trip last year only for it to be cancelled. Will need to replan something.

I do have a South Dakota beer I was going to bring to Cotts. It’s rot box now but will still bring it to share

I’m ahead in Australia and USA just Canada needs work and don’t see much territory/state ticks over here.

You’ll be out before me as, at your age, you’ll be vaccinated :joy::rofl:

Yip, Jabbed and ready to go: Flights to LAX booked (been booked and cancelled twice so far, expect it to happen again before I actually get across the pond).

Belgian/German road trip last year didn’t take place, or our Greek Island holiday, County Mayo stuff also cancelled; 2020 was all planned but it failed completely.

It probably behoves me to stake a claim for neighbours New Zealand to be split. There are 16 regions - although some of them are indeed small:

Northland , Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Wanganui, Wellington, Tasman, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland

I make no remark about links to the regulation of gravel pits.

@hawthorne00, how many of these regions have populations or hamlets with people living in them?

I think splitting New Zealand into two would be easiest, North and South islands.

This link has populations. 10 have populations over a hundred thousand. 4 of about half a million +.

I understand the idea that this is lots of regions for a small country. But the proposal for Ireland suggests that’s OK. And I think there’s more of a regional scene than just a North South split: Auckland and Wellington are pretty distinct and Christchurch (Canterbury) and Dundedin (Otago) are also fairly different.

But I don’t have strong feelings - just putting it on the notice paper.

I’m genuinely curious why people keep on mentioning population levels or history. Almost every country has at least one (if not more) levels of subdivisions that exist to work with; all we really need to do is pick one that makes the stats nerds happy and go for it.

I think it’s the idea that regional splits are justified if different sorts of beer are “traditionally” made or drunk in the area. Certain sorts of lager comes from Munich. Saison is Wallonian. NEIPAs come from those parts of the US north of most of Canada. So splitting those countries makes sense from a “trying different sorts of beer” perspective whereas “let’s just split everywhere into a bunch of regions even if there is no difference in ingredients, style or tradition” doesn’t.

Some people would be fine with just more regions to tick for no reason. Others want a pretext.

Well I am bored with this Covid ‘Lock-In’ and thought I’d post a few lines on different threads ‘just for kicks and giggles’.

I have no issues with how New Zealand is regionalised, or anywhere else for that matter.

Please don’t get ‘het up’ about anything I post, often only in jest or devilment.

Do we even have any NZ users? Just wondering. I’m not against splitting anything and everything. Except of course the Unbreakable Kingdom of Denmark.
