How is Coronavirus Impacting Ticking

Yes, and maybe we can chip in with updates concerning pubs in our region that are looking at a delivery or takeaway service.

Some great initiatives in these shitty times.

Looks like the UK thread has fallen back a few pages as it’s not been posted in for well over a year! Don’t think any admins pinned the UK one but the EU one is.

I don’t want to draw attention away from those threads as they still serve a purpose here, however I do wish to point out that I launched a dedicated website to serve as a directory of online bottleshops and breweries. You can visit it over at https://bottleshops.online

Advantages to this: fully searchable with many filters to narrow down the sort of shop you’re looking for; it’ll also show any international shops that ship to your country; it’s mobile friendly; lists shops worldwide not just the EU; reviews/ratings and links to external review sites where applicable; and importantly, I can list an unlimited number of shops there, whereas in the forums I’m limited by post size (the table formatting takes up a lot).
More than 96% of the 500+ bottleshops and 140+ breweries listed are independent, those that aren’t are clearly marked. For the foreseeable future it’s going to be the independent businesses that are severely affected by this so those are the ones we should look to support.

With that out the way, below is a link to the UK/IE bottleshop thread. As I’ve said there are far less shops listed here than the website (post size limits how many I can put) but it’s the best place for discussion. I’ll have a look in a bit and see if there’s any closed down that can be removed to make way for other shops.
Also @jjsint had a nice idea above, if people want to post updates for any local pubs and shops now offering delivery that would be lovely. If there’s enough we could perhaps make a new thread especially for them.

P.s. I’m aware the country dropdown on my website is taking a long time to load on first visit, looking into it now.

That’s brilliant, you are a star, ok I will use the dedicated site now.

For now, the only impact on my ticking has been the cancellation of Beer Geek Madness and Hop City. For as long as the pubs are open (and as long as I am healthy obviously), I will continue to go to my regular haunts both to keep up with my beer FOMO and to support the pubs. If and when the mandatory closure comes, I already have a stash that will last a good couple of months, and where possible will top up with off-sales from my usual pubs/shops.

As of today I’m working from home, which ironically in any other circumstances would massively increase my ticking as ‘home’ would be defined by me as anywhere in the world with wifi, but of course I won’t be going anywhere any time soon

Damn! Quebec even survived the horrible sobriety of temperance in the 30s, and bootlegged to the U.S. and elsewhere in Canada. The rest of us should return the favour. Bring back the bootleg gangsters! Save Quebec!

The big talk in the Welly Brum is that all the Birmingham pubs will be closed down after Friday by the local council. Not sure if they can do this but the Landlords are worried.

Public Health Act?

In Estonia they banned all alcohol sales between 22:00 and 10:00, which essentially shuts down many bars and restaurants. A lot of the bars/restaurants who mainly served tourists already closed voluntarily - cheaper to temp. close and send staff to unpaid leave as there are no tourists.

Yeah I reckon that’ll be announced today. A gradual closing to lessen the impact… Pubs round here are selling off all their draught beer for £2 a pint to get rid of stocks before the inevitable shut down.

Tilt in brum have been getting quite emotional about it writing long posts detailing their outgoings.

Thankfully small businesses will be able to apply for grants of up to £25k so help will be there, but definitely rent and utilities need to be frozen for businesses that will be closed.

My local MP met with Boris last night and I was asked by the local CAMRA to write him my thoughts. I stressed the importance of wage protection and the freezing of rent / bills, so hopefully he took it on board.

Well I visited my local micropub, The Made Inn Ashford last night and there were still some customers in and the landlord had no intention of shutting or selling off his draught beer. Ticking will go down no doubt. I will be trying to get rid of the back log of Struise Pannepot in the garage. Still got a lot of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 to drink.
There’s a new session IPA on Curious Brew I need to get.
Apart from that, I won’t be travelling much to get new ticks, it’s time to rely on the stash in the garage.

Don’t know what it’s like around your area but various breweries around here are offering free delivery, etc, so I am planning to order some beers and have been encouraging others to do so.

I was tempted to ask two colleagues if they were happy for some beers to be delivered to them but I may not see them for 4 months.

Edit: one of my colleagues has just ordered from Vibrant Forest.

Love Vibrant Forest, my brewery of 2019.

Currently in Tilt, they are hoping to carry on as a coffee shop and selling cans / bottles to take away. Get the feeling that coffee shops will go the same way as pubs.

Double Barrelled are shut for drink in from now on, but opening for take away I think. https://doublebarrelled.co.uk/covid-19-an-action-plan/ Sadly I saw that Elusive are going to really struggle, I will make sure I buy a good few from Andy, they have fresh new beers ready today and an online shop : https://www.elusivebrewing.com/ Not sure about Siren Tap Yard so far.

Siren are doing something similar to Double-Barrelled I believe.

Edit: Double-Barrelled now have an online shop. As I don’t want multiples of each beer was planning to include merch but none on the webshop.

I’m going going to order some stuff from Andy tonight.

I did an order from Hoptimism This week, but bottle and can drinking is slow and expensive compared to halves and thirds in pubs.

Lincolnshire has one had a handful of cases, so lots of places staying open. However very few people are visiting bars.

A friend of mine works for a large company that designs and commissions brewery equipment, FVs etc… Pretty much every emerging craft brewery works with them. Just saw him and he says every brewery apart from one has cancelled / postponed their orders. This is clearly going to have huge repercussions well into next year.

My pub tour of Liverpool had to be cancelled. Damn! My flights Bergen-Liverpool return appeared to be cancelled already, without any information sent out by the airline ( wideroe.no ).

That’s why I am looking to order merch.
