STAT ATTACK, The Percentage Game

11100 plus beer rates.

England almost 5,000 = 45% of my ratings
US almost 1,600 = 14%
Germany and Belgium both on 930 plus = 8% each

So 75% of my rates come from only 4 countries.

Same four countries make up my place review top list, also coming out at 75%.

950 place reviews
394 in England = 41%
134 in US = 14%
105 in Germany = 11%
89 in Belgium = 9%

Only 3006 rates

75% are from 18 countries (not surprising as I try to “diversify” my beer drinking):

Belgium: 132 = 5%
Belarus: 126 = 4%

Bulgaria: 40 = 1%

Out of 5398 beers rates:

A whopping 3608 are from England. That’s 66.9% or a wee bit over 2/3rds.
Followed by:
USA (365 or 6.8%)
Scotland (345 or 6.4%)*
Belgium (200 or 3.7%)

*For a long time, my England:Scotland ratio hovered around 10:1, no matter what I did. Scotland rates have suffered of late due to fewer BrewDog trips (or a better guest list when I do go) and no trips to Scotland since 2017.

Place rates are even more Anglocentric:

England = 842 places (87%)
Scotland = 41 places (5%)
USA = 16 places (2%)
Latvia = 14 places (1.7%)

I did get a new country place rate during lockdown though (Northern Ireland’s KWM Wines). Normally I won’t rate a bottle shop unless I’ve physically been (or they’re online only), but I felt their deal for a surprise box of 12 NI beers was ‘in the interest of RateBeer gen’. That’s not cheating, is it?

My beer drinking has a real English focus.

Of the 9557 beer I have had

  • England - 7091 - 74%
  • Scotland - 535 - 6%
  • United States - 383 - 4%
  • Wales - 267 - 3%
  • Denmark - 222 - 2%

Of the 347 places I have rated

  • England - 326 - 94%
  • Scotland - 14 - 4%
  • Netherlands - 4 - 1%

I have rated a place in all English regions except Wiltshire. Lockdown scuppered my plans for that one.

@dragnet101 and @reidyboy. You’ve both joined during the covid ‘Lock In’ (more or less), so it’s to be expected that you’ve rated mostly English beers, I am sure your percentages will alter as your overall totals grow and you get the chance to try more foreign brews.

7566 total ratings with 84% from:
United States 3568 - 47%
England 1253 - 17%
Belgium 953 - 13%
Germany 347 - 5%
Netherlands 234 - 3%

Too lazy to manually count place rates by location.

I’m sure you are right although one of my aims when things get back to some form of normality is to try the many breweries in the Midlands that are new to me. Some of the best beers from Belgium and USA may have to wait!

3,942 rates.

  1. England @ 2,663 = 67.55%

  2. US @ 269 = 6.82%

  3. Germany @ 167 = 4.25%

  4. Scotland @ 123 = 3.1%

  5. Belgium @ 104 = 2.64%

  6. Finland @ 98 = 2.49%

So England is way above everyone else which is not a surprise as I have been doing a lot of county ticking and of specific local breweries. And around 84% from my top 5 countries.

Have bought a number of Belgian beer recently (partly thanks to Sophie’s) so they’ll be increasing. These stats also reminded me that my cousin in Finland offered to buy and post me beers so will have to take him up on that and rate some more beers from the Oulu region. Plus should go there next year.
